Vertical Aerospace is building technology to revolutionise how people fly. Our mission is to make air travel personal, on-demand and carbon free.

We’re looking for a Power Systems Expert to focus on the development, integration and certification of bespoke aircraft electrical power equipment. This will include; Battery Management Systems, Solid State circuit protection, Inverters/Motor Controllers as well as on board electrical distribution.

You will work with our suppliers and in-house engineers to ensure an optimised integrated system, bringing best practice and innovation to play in this fast-paced design and build environment.

You’ll ideally have experience delivering programs throughout the entire product lifecycle, and a proven track record of work in a highly regulated industry, preferably aerospace or automotive, with both theoretical and practical hands-on experience.


Your duties will be wide ranging and varied and will include:

  • Electrical system architecture design
  • The integration of electrical systems within vehicle and powertrain projects
  • Compliance definition to relevant aerospace standards
  • Definition of test requirements for both flight ready and experimental systems
  • Outsourced work package management
  • Certification activities, including the definition of requirements and the execution of the associated test
  • Presenting complex system information in an understandable way to different levels of the business
  • Support electrical systems design, mechanical design, modelling and simulation activities
  • Assist in the manufacture and testing of prototypes, both full and part scale
  • 2D and 3D design activities in Solidworks

Basic Qualifications / Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace, Motorsport, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Good fundamental knowledge of Aircraft Structures and Systems
  • Detailed understanding of the Design Requirements and System Engineering approach
  • Thorough understanding of engineering 1st principles and ability to perform basic hand calculations to sense check designs
  • High level of self-drive with the ability to work in a team, as well as autonomously
  • Significant experience and proficiency of at least one current CAD package (SolidWorks preferred)

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience of certifying to aerospace (or similar) standards
  • Masters or PhD in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience in communicating with management, industry regulators, as well as technical and business teams to collect requirements, describe product features and technical designs
  • Hold a delegation within an aerospace DOA
