Vertical Aerospace is building technology to revolutionise how people fly. Our mission is to make air travel personal, on-demand and carbon-free.

The successful candidate should have extensive experience of design, or development of complex mechanical / electrical systems.


Your duties will be wide ranging and varied and will include:

  • Contributing to the design of the powertrain at a system, sub-system and component level
  • Evaluating off the shelf options and, where needed, preparing design definitions for manufacture
  • Specifying and developing in-house test facilities to assess and optimise the performance of potential powertrain arrangements, considering the instrumentation requirements, inspection, assembly, maintainability and health & safety aspects
  • Coordinating with external test houses to undertake specific powertrain tests
  • Documenting incidents and failures which occur on test, investigating them, reaching the root cause and implementing the corrective action
  • Preparing test plans, procedures and reports

Basic Qualifications / Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace, automotive, mechanical engineering or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience of certifying to aerospace standards
  • Hands on experience of mechanical engineering (i.e. car maintenance etc)
  • Master’s degree or PhD in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience of managing a package of work to defined timescales and costs
  • Experience of the qualification / certification of products
