Vertical Aerospace is building technology to revolutionise how people fly. Our mission is to make air travel personal, on-demand and carbon-free.

The position will be focused on developing strategy for the department and the growth and development of a high calibre team. You will also take responsibility for leading the development, documentation and audit of software to safety critical aerospace standards, mainly DO178. As this is a developing business, you will also be responsible for writing embedded code (C, C++) and be interested in cloud and new software technologies.

Responsibilities

Your duties will be wide ranging and varied and will include:

  • Leading development of architecture & software
  • Leading developing to aerospace standards where required
  • Analysis and specification of requirements
  • Embedded development
  • Development of internal tools to aid engineering development
  • Assist with the build and fault-finding of the project
  • Leading development of data systems to drive Industry 4.0 in our growing business
  • Mentoring and line management of growing team

Basic Qualifications / Experience

  • 8-12 years experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or relevant Engineering degree
  • Proficiency in at least two object oriented programming languages
  • Experience developing with UML
  • Experience developing in an agile framework
  • Experience using Continuous Integration
  • Experience of certifying to standards

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience of certifying to aerospace standards - DO 178
  • Experience auditing software development
  • Masters or PhD Computer Science or relevant Engineering discipline
  • Proficiency in embedded programming
  • Experience with building and testing systems on UAS
  • Experience with autocoding from Matlab and/or Simulink
