We’re looking for an Electrical and Electronic Engineer to support our vehicle and powertrain development projects.

The ideal candidate will have strong practical skills underpinned by a robust understanding of fundamental electrical/electronic engineering theory and principles. Previous aerospace experience is not essential, but a background in electrical power engineering, power electronics or vehicle electrification would be beneficial.

You will need be prepared to take on a wide range of challenges across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, with the opportunity to shape the role around your areas of interest and expertise.

Responsibilities

Your duties will be wide ranging and varied and will include:

  • Integrating electrical and electronic systems within vehicle and powertrain projects
  • Electrical and electronic design activities for both flight ready and experimental systems
  • Supporting test activities, including design, commissioning and operation of electrical systems for test facilities
  • Analysis and interpretation of test and simulation data
  • Assisting in the manufacture and testing of prototypes, both full and part scale
  • Working closely with other internal engineering disciplines to help deliver highly-integrated design solutions
  • Creating technical documentation for internal and external audiences

Basic Qualifications / Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Avionics, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent
  • Able to interpret, modify and create wiring diagrams and circuit schematics
  • Proficient in interpreting equipment and component datasheets to make justified selections in a systems context
  • Competent in the use of electrical/electronic test and measurement equipment
  • Strong understanding of fundamental Electrical Power Engineering principles
  • Strong practical skills with hands-on experience of building, commissioning and testing electrical/electronic systems
  • Thorough understanding of engineering first principles and ability to perform basic hand calculations to check designs
  • Understanding of the product development cycle
  • High level of self-drive with the ability to work in a team, as well as autonomously

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Integration of electrical and electronic components, equipment and sub-systems within a larger system
  • Use of MATLAB/Simulink for data analysis, modelling and simulation
  • Safe working with hazardous voltages, particularly DC systems above 120V
  • Competence in any of the following:
    • Control theory and control system design
    • Electrical system architecture and detailed design
    • Electronic circuit design, analysis and simulation
    • Schematic entry and PCB layout
    • 2D/3D CAD, particularly using Solidworks
    • Analysis and design of thermal management components or systems
    • Design and specification of fluid (e.g. cooling) systems to component level
  • Experience of any of the following:
    • AC motors, motor control and power electronics
    • Commissioning and testing of power electronics and electrical drives at multi-kilowatt power levels
    • Working with practical real-time control systems
    • Lithium-Ion batteries and battery management systems
    • Specifying and using sensors, data acquisition systems and instrumentation
    • Developing components, equipment or systems to aerospace (or similar) standards
